2021 Huntington Estate Semillon
Zingy and fresh.
VARIETY Huntington’s flagship white grape, our Semillon is as age-worthy as those from our neighbours in the Hunter, but is more approachable when young thanks to a cooler, longer ripening period that allows us to preserve acids while better ripening the fruit. A Huntington Semillon is fresh, delicate and crisp. We love Semillon. It grows so well in Mudgee and is such a versatile grape. This is the perfect aperitif and Mrs Huntington's go to Friday night pre-dinner drink; it's also delicious with all seafood - from partnering the mineral purity of an oyster to adding freshness to a delicious battered piece of flathead.
WINEMAKING 40% Estate Grown, this wine is a blend (post-fermentation) of the pressings of Huntington fruit from Blocks 5 and 6 (picked 10.5 Bé on 11/2) and a lovely parcel of Semillon fruit purchased from a vineyard on the other side of town (picked 10.2 Bé on 12/2). Bottled 01/07 at 10.9% Alc by Vol.
IN NOSE Fresh lime and lemons with a hint of honeysuckle.
IN MOUTH Lemon, gin and tonic like zingy freshness. Light, with good drive, line and length. Crisp. Vibrant natural acidity gives a lovely freshness and a long smooth finish. Not as soft and floral as the 2019, more of a classic Semillon with its tingling acidity and great ageing potential.

ACCLAIMS
"Screaming for calamari, pour me a large glass thanks. Lemons galore, think lemon juice, zest and tang. Clean with well-balanced acidity, scents of barley sugar rise up with time in the glass. A leafiness rolls in on close leaving green apple sours in its wake. There is some refreshment and crowd-pleasing appeal here.." QWINE 2022
"Young, bright and fresh in the glass. Aromas of lemon zest, citrus curd, green leaf and white flowers. The palate is fresh, tangy and lively on the palate. A zesty and youthful wine." THE REAL REVIEW 2022
