2021 Huntington Estate Semillon Sauvignon Blanc
Crispy and lively.
VARIETY Huntington’s second Semillon Sauvignon Blanc in recent years, the wine is inspired by the classic White Bordeaux Blend, with a splash of Riesling / Gewürztraminer taking the place of the traditional Muscadelle.
WINEMAKING 50% Huntington Semillon was blended post fermentation with parcels of Sauvignon Blanc (37.5%) from the Central Ranges, and 7.5% Riesling and 5% Traminer. We’re aiming for freshness here, plus a distinctive aromatic profile to add another colour to the portfolio. I love this wine! Each variety was crushed and fermented separately. No oak was used. Blending was done shortly prior to bottling at 11.8% ALC. in June 2021.
IN NOSE Limes and citrus blossom.
IN MOUTH Zingy lime sherbert with a hint of rose water and orange blossom. Delicious! Fresh and lively, vibrant, crisp, with a lovely structure and succulent acids.
CELLAR 2026+. Designed to be enjoyed in its youth, I would drink it within 5 years of vintage, though no doubt it will hold for another 5.
DRINK WITH Asian flavours/seafood.
REVEWS & ACCOLADES
92/100 "This is the second release of Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and the blend enjoys a small addition of Riesling and Gewurztraminer. A very light yellow with a fleck of green in the glass, the aromatics see lemon curd, orange blossom and background tropical notes. The palate shows more of the Sauvignon Blanc influence with flowing melon and understated kiwi, the main blend component of Semillon comes to the fore on the finish with a taut lemony acidity and textural crunch accentuating the finish. A masterful blend that benefits from the strengths of both varieties, enjoyable now and the potential to evolve over the next couple of years." THE WINE REVIEWER 2021
