2021 Huntington Estate Grenache
Pretty, fruity, vibrant.
VARIETY Chief Winemaker and vigneron Tim’s love affair with Grenache is long lived and deeply felt. He is a firm believer in the adage 'Grenache delivers what Pinot promises'. 2 new blocks have been planted in the last 5 years to build Grenache as a 3rd pillar of the Huntington portfolio’s iconic reds (with Shiraz and Cabernet). In 2022 we will produce a reserve ageing style alongside the more nouveau style that we have produced in 2021. With this wine, we’re aiming for a vibrant, lighter style, similar to extremely popular 2019 Grenache, that is designed to be enjoyed in its youth.
VINEYARD / WINEMAKING Fruit from our 15 year old Block 22, and our 3 year old Block 15 was picked on 16/3 at 13.6 Bé. On skins, fermenting until 23/3 when pressed off to tank, then racked to well seasoned barriques (American) 20/4. Bottled November 8th at 14.3% Alc.
IN NOSE Red cherries, raspberries and a hint of rosemary.
IN MOUTH Red cherries and red currants with a lick of delicate spice. Delicious! Everything in balance, the wine is both vibrant and refreshing and velvety smooth, silky soft and long.
CELLAR 2026+ Designed to be enjoyed in its youth, I would drink it within 5 years of vintage, though no doubt it will hold for another 5.
