2021 Huntington Estate Chardonnay
Vibrant, fresh and light.
VARIETY All of Huntington’s Estate grown Chardonnay fruit went into the Barrel Fermented and the Special Reserve Chardonnays this year in an attempt to catch up after the lost vintage of 2020. These wines are slowly maturing in barrel as I write this; and will be bottled in late September / early October.
WINEMAKING We know you love your unwooded Chardonnays too, so we sourced a parcel of fruit from an exceptional vineyard in the Central Ranges that produces a lovely, full-flavoured chardonnay. Unoaked, the wine is a lighter, fresher expression of Chardonnay. It was bottled early to lock in its lovely peachy, rock-melon flavours at 13.4% ALC.
IN NOSE Just-ripe pineapple and citrus.
IN MOUTH Fresh pineapple and lemon with a hint of honey and delicate white flowers. Light to medium-bodied, mid-palate driven. Vibrant natural acidity gives a lovely freshness but the mouthfeel has the rounded softenss of a good chardonnay.
DRINK WITH Grilled barramundi.
REVEWS & ACCOLADES
91/100 "Unwooded Chardonnay used to be a thing, but not so much anymore I find. Winemakers have worked out how to embrace oak a little better rather than saturate the fruit. Here, this is a fruit party and you're all invited. It's good to see an unwooded version still floating around. Lemon curd, mango, custard creaminess cut loose early. They set an upbeat tempo. With a little spice, vanilla, lemon juice and green melon jump on board just like the old days where it seemed a tradition to dance around handbags placed in the middle of the dance floor - do you remember those days? Grapefruit acidity brings the mouth to water - delicious! A resfreshing and sumnmery Chardonnay sure to dowse the heat out of a long day. Well played here. Drink to five years." QWINE 2021
