2021 Grand Reserve Shiraz Cabernet

AUD $100.00 inc. gst
Quantity:

VINTAGE  2021 was the first year of a La Niña cycle - cold, wet and long. Heavy rainfall in spring following a full soil recovery program through 2020 as the drought broke left the vines in fantastic condition for a slow and steady ripening season. The reds from 2021 are elegant and complex, while the whites are aromatic and lifted.

WINEMAKING / VINEYARD 20/03/21 - 2T Cabernet Sauvignon and 2.2T of Shiraz from Blocks 3A and 1 respectively at 13.4Bé. Cold soaked for three days, followed by seven days on skins. Pressed at 3.5Bé and straight into oak (25% new, all American). Dried in barrel to -1.0Bé over the next two weeks. 17 months in oak, bottled on 14/10/2022 at 14.15% alc/vol.

IN NOSE Figs and honey, with a creamy nuttiness. Tobacco leaf and dusty cigar box, notes of cedar and dark fruit.

IN MOUTH Bright red and black fruit - sour maraschino cherries and deep brambly blackberry. Youthful yet softly structured with smooth tannins. Mid palate rich with herbacious characters of eucalypt and mint. A lingering finish full of cocoa and pine smoke. Huge ageing potential but good to go now - decant and allow to breathe for 20 minutes prior to serving.

ACCLAIM

96/100 "That classic blend that Australians do all too well, this Huntington Estate Grand Reserve Shiraz Cabernet oozes delish and charm. Armed to live a long and cherished life, it is approachable now with a decant, but tuck it away and embrace its beauty down the track... A wine of serene presence and delicate complexity, this is melt in your mouth kind of stuff. Cherry Ripe steals the show. Lacey dark chocolate is framed by cedar and cloves. Time in the glass sees blackberries and canned plums rise up with some black olives and a fine feathering of earthiness. Sleek yet muscular tannins cruise about driving through to a most impressive finish that leaves a lasting impression. This is an excellent drink and one of the very best I have seen from Huntington Estate." QWINE 2024

92/100 "Vibrant ruby with a hit of purple at the rim. Ripe blackberry, bay leaf and cedar shavings on the nose. A full bodied red, dark fruits are ripe but well matched to gravelly tannins and as it rolls we see mint and cedar savoury notes. Long on the finish and will benefit from cellaring or at least a long decant prior to serving." THE REAL REVIEW 2024

92/100 "This judiciously blended wine from the cool climate areas of Mudgee shows intensity and boldness of aromas and flavours. Black fruit driven palate, wafts of chocolate, menthol, mixed herbs and cigar smoke twirl around a solid framework of grippy, well-rounded tannins. It's a wine of heft and substance which will reward some cellaring." GILBERT LABOUR 2024

"Inky purple in colour, complex bouquet of red berries, dried herbs, a hint of spice & a splash of vanillin oak. Delightful mouthful of rich, round, balanced, attractive flavours with great structure and depth, plus a divine lingering finish. AWESOME!!" DAN TRAUCKI 2024
