2019 Huntington Estate Special Reserve Semillon
VINTAGE 2019 was characterized by intensely dry heat spells followed by short, heavy rainfall. With a lot of hard work from our vineyard team, we picked our fruit very early to beat the heat and secured stunning, evenly ripened fruit with clean, restrained acids.
VARIETY This is the 5th release of our Special Reserve Semillon. It’s a palate-driven wine-style I love to drink, and I’m really enjoying experimenting with different winemaking techniques and learning about what our fruit can do.
WINEMAKING Low yields of fruit from the oldest and most vigorous Semillon vines (50 years old) were picked at 11 Baumé, where the acid balance was ideal. Crushed and pressed quickly with only free run juice used. Fermented in stainless tanks at low temperature and kept on lees for four weeks prior to bottling.
IN NOSE Citrus, lemongrass and light florals with gentle grassy characters.
IN MOUTH Succulent acid, elegance and balance with beautiful fruit fl avours of lemon and honeysuckle. A lovely wine.
CELLAR until 2028+
94/100 "Processed swiftly, cool-fermented and early bottled. Lemongrass, lemony acidity et al is in place for a gradual move to the complexity and richness 10+ years hence." HALLIDAY 2020
93/100 "Pale lemon to straw-yellow hue. Lemon tartlets and lanolin aromatics. Bright lemon zest and oyster-shells with a waxy undertone. Great drive with bright acid and a fuzz of phenolics keeps it light, lithe and long. Plenty of life ahead of it." THE REAL REVIEW 2021
