2019 Huntington Estate Semillon
Elegant, balanced and silky smooth.
VINTAGE The white wines from 2019 are full flavoured thanks to a vintage marked by drought. Our old vines stood up well to the dry conditions thanks to our bore-based irrigation system. This ensured excellent leaf canopy and shading through the fruit ripening part of the season. White grapes were picked fully ripe with strong flavours, sugar and acid levels. The chardonnay wines are peachy with strong acid structures, while the Semillon wines show elegant citrus characters with a crisp structure.
VARIETY Huntington’s flagship white grape, our Semillon is as age-worthy as those from our neighbours in the Hunter, but is more approachable when young thanks to a cooler, longer ripening period that allows us to preserve acids while better ripening the fruit. A Huntington Semillon is fresh, delicate and crisp.
WINEMAKING Fruit from Block 6 was picked on 12/02/2019 at 11.8 Baume. Fruit from Block 5, picked 13/02/2019 at 11.6 Baume was pressed off as free run juice which was then added back to the Block 6 juice. This adds integrity and structure to the wine due to a better balance and integration. Fermentation lasted 14 days at a lower temperature range to preserve the fruit flavours. Bottled 23/05/2019.
IN NOSE Lemon sherbet, sweet orange, honey suckle.
IN MOUTH Stone fruit, citrus, mineral edge. Racy natural acids form the backbone of a classic Semillon structure with a crisp finish.

REVEWS & ACCOLADES
91/100 "A lemon-a-thon if such a thing is possible. Mudgee Semillon screaming out for seafood. Drenched in lemon meringue, lemon juice and lemon curd plus some lime pith adds some mouthfeel. Sift a little deeper and you'll find some cut herbs. But who wants to go looking for things when refreshment beckons, right? Clean and crisp, this will take the sting out of a warm day. Drink now but will age." QWINE 2020
91/100 "Warm days, cool nights - for a slightly more opulent and forward style. It's complex aromatically, operating in more of the citrus to pineapple zone, subtle herbal inflections lift the game further. The palate perhaps gives an impression of fruit sweetness - certainly if you might rather be more used to the brazen acidity of the Hunter styles. Instead the Huntington is made in a more youthful, approachable manner. The acid is still there, just balanced with some natural tension to the fruit." THE VINSOMNIAC 2020
91/100 "A lightly golden yellow in the glass with lemon curd, and a creaminess to subtle lanolin aromatics. The palate is framed by finger limes and lemon with great purity and a faint suggestion of tropical flair; there is generous texture from the fruit that enjoys a lemon thread pulsating through the finish that is fresh, clean and long. Drinking well now and will be sure to evolve with time." THE WINE REVIEWER 2020
90/100 "Pale straw-yellow hue. Lemon curd, bees wax and broken chalk aromas. Lime zest, lemon sherbet and beeswax on the palate. Has good weight through the middle. It's showing semillon development but is a good drink for the near future." THE REAL REVIEW 2021
90/100 "Lightly grassy, fresh herbs and lemons, clean and restrained but has plenty of fruit flavour. Balanced acidity is well-judged for current drinking. Soft, dry, appetising and very good value." HUON HOOKE 2020
"Juicy lemons yell an excited ‘HELLO’ to the nasal passages as a slight floral sort of note fights its way through that citrusy hit. An inviting entrée to what’s inside the bottle and it doesn’t disappoint. Fresh, zingy and citrusy with lovely acidity. There’s a very nice lemony tang complementing the great fruit flavours spreading themselves across the tongue. It maybe young in both looks and taste but don’t let this stop you from opening a bottle. As I said earlier, it doesn’t disappoint." WORDS FROM A WINEGLASS 2020
