2019 Huntington Estate Semillon Chardonnay
Fresh and fruity.
VINTAGE The white wines from 2019 are full flavoured thanks to a vintage marked by drought. Our old vines stood up well to the dry conditions thanks to our bore-based irrigation system. This ensured excellent leaf canopy and shading through the fruit ripening part of the season. White grapes were picked fully ripe with strong flavours, sugar and acid levels. The chardonnay wines are peachy with strong acid structures, while the Semillon wines show elegant citrus characters with a crisp structure.
VARIETY This classic Australian blend is great fun with two of our highest producing varieties. The Chardonnay brings a deep, rounded fruitiness to the lean, mineral structure of the Semillon, creating a generously fruity, well balanced and dry white blend.
WINEMAKING Semillon fruit from Block 6 was picked on the 12/02/2019 at 11.8 Baume whilst fruit from Block 5 was picked on the 13/02/2019 at 11.6 Baume. The pressings were then combined and fermented together to create the structural base of the blend. Fresh fruity characters are provided by an addition of the 2019 Semillon wine. The Chardonnay fruit was picked on 07/02/2019 at 12.5 Baume and then underwent a 14 day fermentation where it saw some French oak. Final blending of 35% Chardonnay and 65% Semillon took place on 04/04/2019 with bottling taking place on the 21/05/2019.
IN NOSE Nectarine, just-ripe honeydew melon, citrus.
IN MOUTH Stone fruit, passionfruit, lemon curd, grapefruit skin. Mouth-filling but fresh. Flintiness and acidity from the Semillon, flavour, roundness and warmth from the Chardonnay. Don’t serve too cold.

REVEWS & ACCOLADES
91/100 "In a word - yum. Lazy night in kinda wine. And the way things are shaping up for the next little while, you can wash away your worries with a glass or two of this. A wonderfully refreshing wine. It's beautifully balanced (65/35 blend) with nothing climbing over the top of the other to seek attention. Lemon juice, lemon grass and cut green herbs. Some engaging flesh and an equally respectable length ensure this wine will please many - with or without food. Great stuff!" QWINE 2020
90/100 "This is a blend of 65% Semillon and 35% Chardonnay and has resulted in a moreish wine that has the structure and citrus tones you expect from Semillon and the richer mouth filling stone fruits and creamy notes from Chardonnay. The nose sees lemon and white peach joined by fig and faint honey notes, the palate is supple and brings lemongrass and fig to the lemon and stone fruit ensemble. There are clean lines of acidity that give drive and length to finish. Drinking well now and will be a curiosity as it ages." THE WINE REVIEWER 2020
"While tasting this wine, I was trying to think of the last time I saw this particular white blend on social media, on a restaurant wine list or in a bottle shop. I've seen 'field blends' and plenty of 'Rhone blends' about but few bottles of Semillon/Chardonnay. After tasting it, I began to wonder why there isn't more of it about, especially considering how delicious this one is. Things started off very nicely with plenty of stonefruit and citrusy aromas causing some anticipation salivation. It's fresh, fruity and full of flavour on the palate, that's for sure. Lovely peach and nectarine characters to the fore with a nice lemon/grapefruit-like acidity adding freshness to a very good, persistent and dry finish. I have to admit, I did 'taste' it many times just to make sure. This is an absolute bargain and, considering Tim and Nicky Stevens won't be producing any wines from the 2020 vintage due to smoke taint, wines like this one of theirs are going to be in high demand. I can see the words, 'sold out' appearing next to this wine on the website so, get in quick." WORDS FROM A WINEGLASS 2020
