2017 Huntington Estate Shiraz
Stunning, smooth, complex.
VINTAGE 2017 was a great vintage. Good rains during last winter ensured a full soil moisture profile. Consistent weather until late Summer also helped the vines gain strength to settle for a couple of hot spells just before ripening which was marked by ideal dry conditions.
VARIETY While Huntington Cabernet leads the way in the Trophy and Medal tally, it is Huntington Shiraz that often wins the hearts of our customers. As smooth and as fruity as you’d expect from the variety; the fine tannins are well managed to provide structure and length as well as the ability to age. Mudgee produces outstanding Shiraz in both the warm and cool years.
WINEMAKING A blend of 4 blocks within the Huntington Estate vineyard, this wine is made to emphasise our unique fruit and tannin structure. Shiraz from Blocks 4, 10, 18, and 19 was picked on 08/03/2017 at 14.0 Baumé. After fermenting for 10 days on skins, the wine was racked into seasoned American oak (mainly 4th use barrels for a subtle touch) for 16 months. Great value for money, it is an excellent example of age worthy, regional Shiraz.
IN NOSE Blueberries, plums and violets in lovely harmony.
IN MOUTH Beguiling complexity and balance, with luscious dark fruit, spice and creamy milk chocolate. Silky smooth and soft thanks to super fine tannins, with a long finish.
95/100 "A blend of the best four estate blocks, crushed, fermented for 10 days, matured for 16 months in used American oak. Bright, full colour; oak, fruit and fine tannins are sewn together by the balance and elegance of this medium-bodied shiraz." HALLIDAY 2020
90/100 "Very deep ruby-red colour. Mulberry preserve and mocha aromatics. Plump fruit on entry that rolls into a rich, dark chocolate palate. It sits soft and deep with fine and gentle tannins. Rich and warming for a cool winter night." THE REAL REVIEW 2021
