2017 Huntington Estate Bin 13 Shiraz

AUD $32.00 inc. gst

Rich, spicy, deep.

VINTAGE 2017 was a great vintage.  Good rains during last winter ensured a full soil moisture profile. Consistent weather until late Summer also helped the vines gain strength to settle for a couple of hot spells just before ripening which was marked by ideal dry conditions.

VARIETY While Huntington Cabernet leads the way in the Trophy and Medal tally, it is Huntington Shiraz that often wins the hearts of our customers. As smooth and as fruity as you’d expect from the variety; the fine tannins are well managed to provide structure and length as well as the ability to age. Mudgee produces outstanding Shiraz in both the warm and cool years.

VINEYARD / WINEMAKING  Estate grown fruit from Block 18 was picked on 22/2/17 at 13.7 Bé. On skins, fermenting until 28/2/17 when pressed off to tank, then racked to well seasoned barriques (American) 16/4. Bottled January 7th 208 at 14.2% Alc.

IN NOSE Gamey, spice driven with rich notes of rosemary and bay.

IN MOUTH Savoury, dark fruited with bright peppercorn notes and umami sage characters. Mouth filling, with beautifully complex tannins and an incredibly long, smooth finish.

CELLAR until 2032+

93/100 " a Cherry Ripe in a glass. Give it a swirl and take a whiff as dark chocolate dipped dark cherries spill out. A touch of raspberries makes a dash before being swamped by licorice, cardamom and a hint of clove. A little Five Spice is scattered around the edges but there is a ying and yang factor here given its prettiness and its serious side. Fine tannins with a powdery feel reach long and dry out ever so slowly. As it sees more time in the glass and then again on day two of tasting, it builds a delicious momentum. Hello Friday night." QWINE 2022

"Bayleaf and red plum on the nose are mirrored on the palate. Redcurrant and sweet spices appear too. This is tightly wound and well balanced, with plenty of vigour." THE REAL REVIEW 2022
