2017 Bin 11 Cabernet Sauvignon

AUD $34.00 inc. gst
Quantity:

Varietal, rich, herbal.

VINTAGE 2017 was a great red vintage, and the culmination of a huge amount of hard work understanding how to manage the warmer seasons in the vineyard and winery. The promise of the wines was evident from the start with colour and chemistry (pH, acids etc), and the flavours and structure followed through.

VARIETY Huntington’s reputation was built on Cabernet Sauvignon. Two Blocks were planted at opposite ends of the vineyard in 1969, one (Block 3) at the highest point, the other (Block 9) at the lowest. The terroir (climate, soils) and winemaking at Huntington is perfect for this late-ripening, tannic grape.

VINEYARD / WINEMAKING 13 tonne of fruit was received from Block 9 on 10/3/17 at 13.5 Bé and crushed to ferment on skins for 7 days. Barreled in an even mix of French and American oak, including 30% new French, for 17 months. Bottled at 13.9% alc/vol.

IN NOSE Dark fruit and incredible varietal characters of licorice, mulberry and mint.

IN MOUTH Dark, astringent fruit with herbal spice and licorice notes. Very firm structure and tannin, with eucalypt coolness. Incredibly varietal for a Mudgee Cabernet.

GOLD MUDGEE WINE SHOW 2019

94/100 "An inky dark red with youthful hues, as is almost always the case with Huntington Estate. The nose is varietal and true to the producer with blackberry and mulberry fruit enjoying integrated oak spice and faint earth. The palate is medium to full bodied with a cedary baseline of fine grained tannins that are joined with black cherry, blackberry and the faintest influence of olive tapenade. Excellent length." THE WINE REVIEWER 2022

94/100 "...Buckets of black fruits waltz alongside well-handled oak with a sprinkling of dried herbs teasing the edges. So silky through the mouth, I love the mintiness. It even takes me back to the old choc mint pattie. Terrifically long, there is a polish about its presence. An excellent drink hands down." QWINE 2022

93/100 "Dark red, intense and youthful in the glass. Bramble, blackberry, cedar and dark fruited aromas. Structured, firm, layered and long, blackberry drive with a lick of eucalyptus, mulberry, cedar and nutty oak." THE REAL REVIEW 2022

"...a lovely dark colour in the glass which, for many, would indicate a big red wine is about to bombard the senses of smell and taste.  Hold that thought. Generous aromas of dark berries with a little oak poking through and you can’t help but dive your nose back in.  Fruit purity and power are present on a delightfully medium bodied palate.  An abundance of all sorts of black fruits and berries provide the foundation with a little herbal note, a gentle oak influence and obvious but fine tannins adding to the structure as it finishes long and smooth.  Terrific!" WORDS FROM A WINEGLASS 2022
