2016 Huntington Estate Shiraz
Luscious, supple, fruity.
VINTAGE 2016 was one of those vintages where everything falls into place – the weather, the timing, the yields and the flavours all hit the sweet spot. A cool, wet start to the season with a great lift of warmth throughout vintage. A steady ripening period with timely rain produced high quality fruit with great acid and flavour.
VARIETY While Huntington Cabernet leads the way in the Trophy and Medal tally, it is Huntington Shiraz that often wins the hearts of our customers. As smooth and as fruity as you’d expect from the variety; the fine tannins are well managed to provide structure and length as well as the ability to age. Mudgee produces outstanding Shiraz in both the warm and cool years.
VINEYARD / WINEMAKING Shiraz from Blocks 4, 18, and 19 was picked on March 8th at 14.5 Baume. After fermenting for 10 days on skins, the wine was racked into a mix of French and American oak (mainly 4th use barrels for a subtle touch).
IN NOSE The full ripeness of the vintage is indicated by a powerful nose of chocolate and dark berries lifted by subtle spices.
IN MOUTH Luscious dark fruit, backed up by a hint of black pepper and spice and vanillin notes from the oak. Silky smooth thanks to super fine tannins, with a long, sweet-fruited finish. More please..
