2016 Huntington Estate Late Harvest Semillon
Decadent, summery and honeyed.
VINTAGE 2016 had a cool, wet start to the season with a great lift of warmth throughout vintage. A steady ripening period with timely rain produced high quality fruit with great acid and flavour.
WINEMAKING Fruit from Block 5 Semillon was left on the vine to ripen and rot (nobly of course!). 10T worth of table wine grapes left on the vine to shrivel to approx 1T in weight as they ripened to 24 baumé, yielding around 800L of unappealing looking thick brown juice. The miracle of wine-making transforms this unpromising juice into the nectar of the gods. Add nearly 4 years of bottle age and there’s something very special in the bottle as this wine begins its long, slow journey to develop in bottle!
IN NOSE A deep gold, in nose the wine has beautiful aromas of apricot, honey & marmalade.
IN MOUTH The wine sings with flavours of summer - ripe peaches and quince, honey and orange. It has a decadent texture, smooth, mouth-filling with a long, crisp finish. Delicious.
GOLD MEDAL MUDGEE WINE SHOW
92/100 "Deep yellow colour; rich honeyed bouquet with some botrytis evident and some yeasty esteriness. Volatility is there but doesn't intrude at all. Malt and vanilla flavours as well. Very attractive and not overpoweringly sweet." HUON HOOKE 2020
90/100 "Golden in colour. Aromas of marmalade, cooked orange, burnt toffee and caramel. The palate is rich, luscious and mouthfilling, but there is ample acidity to keep things fresh and clean on the finish." THE REAL REVIEW 2021
