2015 Huntington Estate Shiraz
Vibrant, full-bodied and structured.
VINTAGE 2015 in Mudgee was a return to more ‘normal’ vintage conditions -warm but not too hot, dry but not drought and with timely rain. Cool evenings resulted in a steady and controlled ripening period resulting in happy vines and happy winemakers!
VARIETY While Huntington Cabernet leads the way in the Trophy and Medal tally, it is Huntington Shiraz that often wins the hearts of our customers. As smooth and as fruity as you’d expect from the variety; the fine tannins are well managed to provide structure and length as well as the ability to age. Mudgee produces outstanding Shiraz in both the warm and cool years.
VINEYARD / WINEMAKING Fruit was picked from Block 10 and Block 4 of the Huntington Estate vineyard in mid-February at 14 Baumé, fermented on skins for 1 week and then spent 19 months in a carefully selected mix of oak including 25% new American oak barriques.
IN NOSE The full ripeness of the vintage is indicated by a powerful nose of chocolate and dark berries lifted by subtle spices.
IN MOUTH Classic Mudgee tannins are a feature of this wine, underpinning the rich shiraz fruit flavours of dark berries and mocha. Perfectly balanced, especially for such a big wine. Finishes like a classic Mudgee shiraz – strong and earthy, yet smooth.
