2017 Huntington Estate Grenache
Light, floral and spicy.
VARIETY Planted in late 2002, the grapes were blended with Shiraz until 2009 when Chief Winemaker Tim Stevens judged them (and our customers) ready for a straight Grenache. The Huntington Grenache is fruity, floral and spicy and depending on the season full to medium-light bodied.
WINEMAKING Fruit from Block 22 of the Huntington Estate vineyards was picked on 24/03/2017 at 12.5 Baumé. It was cold-soaked for 3 days for optimal flavour extraction, then fermented on skins for 5 days. The wine was then matured in seasoned oak barriques for 12 months, and bottled in March 2018.
IN NOSE Bright red cherries, raspberries, delicate florals and rose water with lifted nutmeg and white pepper spice.
IN MOUTH Lovely fruit flavours of red cherries, berries and spice. Light to medium-bodied with long and lingering fruit. Vibrant, with great balance and poise. A long, clean and fresh finish with a hint of a mineral, graphite edge.
CELLAR until 2028+
DRINK WITH Tomato-based pasta sauces but also outstanding with Szechuan pepper in Chinese cuisine.
