2017 Huntington Estate Chardonnay
Description: Made in a lighter, fresher style, the wine reflects a truly great vintage; a full soil-moisture profile and cool growing season ensured our happy old vines were not under pressure to grow quickly. If I had to write a recipe for an ideal vintage, 2017 would be the model.
Aroma: Floral, with stone fruit and citrus aromas.
Palate: The 2017 Chardonnay is structured and creamy, round in mouth feel with tropical fruits (pineapple and melon), hints of pear and citrus finish.
Cellar: To 2020.
"93/100. Very sound in all departments and drinking well now 93 points and worth its $22" The Key report, Tony Keys, July 2017
"Oh ever sooo young- lovely vibrant citrus aromas, crisp lemon flavours and a refreshing finish. Needs time to settle down!!" Wine Assist, Dan Traucki, July 2017
"Hyper fragrant: ... sweet citrus over ripe peach, barley and tropical melon. (Potentially muscat clone?). The ripe stone and tropical fruit continues through the palate tempered by pithy grapefruit and a tonic-like bitterness..." Vinonotebook. Regan Drew, 2017
"Fresh, clean, vibrant lolly-ish aromas, a pristine fruit-drive style, with some estery confectionery notes. The palate is likewise bright and fruity with lots of aromatics..." Huon Hooke, 2017
"89/100. A decidedly light yellow in the glass this wine is an exercise in youthful exuberance and an expression of summer in a glass. The nose is tropical fruited with top notes of melon and white peach. The palate continues with melon and peach that enjoy a candied aspect that’s contrasted by citrus and green apple like acidity. A vibrant and generous wine that’s drinking well young." Wine Reviewer, Patrick Eckel, July 2017
"88/100 Huntington Estate seems to churn out consistent wines at reasonable prices year after year. This 2017 is an enjoyable Chardonnay - straight from vineyard to bottle. A delicious creamy character rides through the background of this wine with ease. Up front there's an excitable citrus game played hard. Some tropical fruit adds appeal as does melon plus the expected stone fruit as well as something similar to those pineapple lollies. The longer I let it sit an apple cider edge reveals itself. Good going now but it will be better over the next couple of years." QWine July 2017
"This newly bottled 2017 Huntington Estate Chardonnay has immediate impact both on the nose and palate. It offers a full-on frontal delivery of fresh, lively, undeniable varietal fruit punch without the distraction of winemaking artifice or overt oak presence. It is crisp, clean and cheeky with a powerful palate profile of musk, melon & hints of citrus. One to be enjoyed now." The Grape Hunter, Gilbert Labour, July 2017
"...One of the top wineries from that region, Huntington Estate, has maintained the tradition and continues to produce high-quality charades. Their latest release, a 2016 Huntington Estate Barrel Fermented chardonnay and 2017 Estate chardonnay stamp their reputation." Queensland Times, Peter Chapman, July 2017
"This wine has restrained aromatics that remind of lemon, pear and talc. The palate is dry, with firm acidity, a medium to full body, some depth of flavour, a heated spice expression and a medium length, warm finish." Grape Observer, Sean Mitchell, Dec 2017
