- 2014 Huntington Estate Special Reserve Shiraz
2014 Huntington Estate Special Reserve Shiraz
Dark, rich and broody.
Vineyard / Winemaking: 2014 was warm and dry year but the Shirazes have beautiful bright fruit and freshness to enhance fantastic structure. Fruit from the 50-year-old vines of Block 2 was fermented on skins for 11 days, then spent 20 months in barriques (25% new American Oak).
Aroma: Cedar, dark chocolate and a hint of coffee bean.
Palate: Plum and rich dark fruit with a coffee and spice back palate. Fine, clean tannins are well integrated. Balanced with firm, excellent structure.
Cellar: 2024+
Acclaim:
TOP GOLD MEDAL MUDGEE WINE SHOW 2017
BEST SHIRAZ OF SHOW MUDGEE WINE SHOW 2017
MOST OUTSTANDING RED WINE OF SHOW MUDGEE WINE SHOW 2017
"94+/100 Excellent red. Destined for the cellar. Sweet cherry-plum fruit flavours meet coffee grounds, earth, florals and smoky/cedary oak. Fresh-faced but substantial; great combination. Big pulls of tannin. Sturdy and pretty at once. Going places." Campbell Mattinson, Feb 2018
"4.5 Stars, 93/100 Aromas of dry spices and dried herbs; vibrant, fresh and bold with abundant density, body and grip, but without astringency. Ripe and supple and very tannic: a very good wine in traditional muscular Huntington style." Huon Hooke, Feb 2018
"Judged 2017 Mudgee Wine Show’s best red, this multi-faceted shiraz has berry pastille scents, plush blood plum on the front palate, middle-palate mulberry, Turkish delight chocolate and savoury oak and spearminty tannins." John Lewis, Newcastle Herald, Jan 2018
