2012 Huntington Estate Merlot
Vintage: Cool & very wet.
Vineyard / Winemaking: Huntington Estate fruit picked at 12.5 Baumé in the very cold and wet 2012 vintage.
Description: Delicate and varietal.
Aroma: A medium-bodied wine, it balances dark chocolate and vanilla aromas with pomegranate and cherries.
Palate: Soft but firm, racy acids, packed with red fruit and a lovely lingering cherry finish.
Cellar: Will soften with age like the 2009 Merlot.
91/100 “Arguably shows more regional than varietal character, but it has scads of red (predominant) and black fruits, yet retains freshness thanks to its modest alcohol, and will be well worth watching as it develops more light and shade complexity in the years ahead. Cellar to 2022" James Halliday.
Drink with: Drink with something fatty like pork belly, or duck.
